Fold and Unfold Program
Students helped fold hundreds of paper cranes to be used in a ceremony to commenorate the lives lost in the 1910 Rogers Pass avalanche. With the help of the schools and community groups, more than 10,000 colourful paper cranes were displayed in the plaza on March 4th, 2010. It was a very beautiful and moving ceremony. A big thank you to the RSS Leadership Class for helping to teach the elementary students and seniors how to fold the cranes and also to Connor Hale and Ewan Urquart for the amazing work they did with the animation! Thank you to Parks Canada and the 1910 Rogers Pass Snow Slide organizing committee for their efforts and these photos.

Screen Smart Week - March 30th - April 5th, 2009
The Screen Smart Bird Watching Walk was a huge success, 14 kids braved the cold, flurries, and blustering winds to search for birds and learn how to use binoculars. We were all well rewarded when a large bald eagle not only flew over head, but played and soared right over our heads at extremely close range. He came back after a few minutes and repeated the showing off- hanging over our heads for almost a minute. We also saw a flock of geese and of course a token raven. See the attached photos. Thank you to Michael Morris, a NCES biologist and avid birder who gave insightful information and helpful binocular tips.
The Screen Smart Scrabble Run had 20 kids come out to run and spell for fun. Some of the best words were 'duped' 'track' 'trains' excite'' Thank you to the NCES volunteers; Hailey Ross, Melissa Hemphill, Jane McNab, Carrie Dooh, and Tara Benson.
