At the March 3rd, 2009 regular Board of Education meeting, Trustees were provided with information regarding Late French Immersion and the potential enrolment implications in the short term (prior to school consolidation). The report was provided for the information of Trustees at this time and there was some discussion regarding the significant impact on school organization in English programs while the school district is still operating four elementary schools. No decision was either expected or made regarding Late French Immersion. Both enrolment and budget will be further monitored before making any decision regarding the potential implementation for Late French Immersion.

Late French Immersion/Intensive French Update - December 2008
Having now had the opportunity to speak with our new Board regarding a process to pursue Late French Immersion and/or Intensive French, we are pleased to provide this update.
With regard to Late French Immersion, we are focussing on the completion of four tasks ..... The first task, which we hope to complete over the Christmas break, will be to update all district enrolments and forecast regular enrolment with four elementary schools in operation up to 2011 and three elementary schools in operation past 2011. The second task will be to forecast one full class of 29 Grade 6 French Immersion students through to graduation over a number of years. Thirdly, we will then examine the enrollment and school organization implications for all elementary schools with one school hosting Late French Immersion. Once we determine the sustainability of a single Late French Immersion cohort, the fourth task will be to conduct a community canvas to determine interest in Late French Immersion.
In terms of Intensive French, we will be reviewing the success of the program in other jurisdictions, arranging for a public information session to facilitate further information, and then determining interest in this program.
We will continue to publish information on our website regularly with regard to where we are at with our progress.
