REVELSTOKE HOME TO FIRST NEIGHBOURHOOD LEARNING CENTRES

On November 4th, 2009, Premier Gordon Campbell announced that Revelstoke will be home to the first Neighbourhood Learning Centres in the province.  The Neighbourhood Learning Centre at the new Revelstoke Secondary school will include a community theatre and coordinated health services aimed at vulnerable teens. The second Neighbourhood Learning Centre will consist of an early learning hub, medical services and acrobatic centre at the community's new elementary school.

Neighbourhoods of Learning

The following link will take you to the presentation that was submitted to the Ministry as the Revelstoke Board of Education's proposal to be considered for the Neighbourhoods of Learning initiative.

We received some very exciting news regarding the Provincial Neighbourhoods of Learning initiative ... the two press releases follow.

Last December our Board made an application to be considered as a pilot for a new Ministry of Education initiative called Neighbourhoods of Learning.  On Thursday, April 9th at 10:30 am at Revelstoke Secondary School the Honourable Tom Christensen, Minister of Children and Family Development, made a public announcement that School District #19 has been chosen to participate in this exciting initiative.

What is a Neighbourhood of Learning?

The Neighbourhoods of Learning initiative is intended to promote opportunities for people to access education and community services under one roof.  Neighbourhoods of Learning activities may cover a broad range of community based services such as early learning, child care, health services and community services.  Facilities would be designed to accommodate the broad interests of the community:  educational, physical, recreational, cultural and environmental.  Additional space is provided through the funds that accompany this initiative.  This is an outstanding opportunity for our community.

We are thrilled to receive this opportunity to acquire additional space and funding to support Revelstoke's children and citizens. Needless to stay, we will be rolling up our sleeves to implement this project in a timely fashion.
