Dear Families and Friends,
As we move into the final stretch of fall and begin preparing for the winter season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the vibrant start to the school year across our schools—Arrow Heights, Columbia Park, Begbie View, and Revelstoke Secondary.
September welcomed our students back with energy and enthusiasm. Classrooms quickly came alive with learning, collaboration, and community-building. From the first day of school to the launch of new classroom routines, our staff and students embraced the year with positivity and purpose. In late September, each school engaged in meaning learning to honor the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Activities included classroom discussions, art projects reflecting reconciliation, and assemblies. These experiences provided students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Canada’s history and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.
At our elementary schools, the fall brought a rich array of activities that highlighted the spirit of our learning communities:
- Early Dismissal Goal-Setting Conferences allowed students to share their personal learning goals with families and teachers. These conversations are a cornerstone of the Communicating Student Learning (CSL) process, which is central to BC’s education model and deeply valued in Revelstoke.
- Book fairs, a math fair evening, filled our hallways with learning and creativity.
- Cross Country runs where students challenge themselves, enjoyed the outdoors and have fun together.
- Kindergarten registration began for children born in 2021, welcoming the next generation of learners.
At Revelstoke Secondary School, students have been equally engaged in a wide range of activities:
- Terry Fox Run brought the school together in support of cancer research.
- Take Our Children to Work Day, held for Grade 9 students. This annual event offers a powerful opportunity for students to explore real-world workplaces, connect classroom learning to career pathways, and begin imagining their futures. Whether shadowing a parent, guardian, or community mentor, students gained valuable insights into the world of work and the many possibilities ahead.
This experience is part of our broader commitment to career education and experiential learning, which also included Career Days for Grades 9–11, Post-Secondary Info Night.
- Soccer, Cross Country and Volleyball are among the many ways our students stay active.
- Drama class field trips provided a time for students and let their imaginations tale center stage.
- Early Dismissal Days provided valuable time for students and staff to engage in meaningful conversations around goal setting. These sessions are an important part of the Communicating Student Learning (CSL) process, which encourages students to reflect on their progress, articulate their goals, and take ownership of their educational journey. It’s inspiring to see our secondary students developing the skills and confidence to lead their own learning.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the upcoming Concert Band performance at RSS December 10 and 11, and the much-anticipated Winter Concerts at our elementary schools plus. And of course, the upcoming annual RSS Haunted House on October 30th showcasing student creativity and school spirit:
- BVE Winter Concert – December 17th
- CPE Winter Concert – December 18th
- AHE Winter Concert – December 19th
These events showcase the incredible talents of our students, staff and community members that bring us together in celebration.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We are proud of the strong start to the year and look forward to the joy and learning the winter season will bring.
