Pride Month in School District #19 (Revelstoke)
Dear Students, Staff, Families, and Community Partners,
As we are in the month of June, the Revelstoke Board of Education and School District #19 proudly join communities across Canada in recognizing Pride Month—a time to honour the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
At the heart of Pride Month is a powerful message: everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated for who they are. In Revelstoke schools, we are deeply committed to upholding these values every day of the year. Pride Month gives us a special opportunity to reinforce that commitment and to publicly affirm our support for students, staff, and families of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
As outlined in Board Policy 5.6: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, our district does not tolerate homophobic or discriminatory behavior of any kind. We recognize that prejudiced language or actions undermine the dignity of individuals and diminish the sense of safety and belonging across the entire school community. We are committed to providing learning environments that are inclusive, welcoming, and respectful for everyone.
Throughout the month, you may notice Pride flags raised at schools, classroom activities that celebrate diversity, and student-led initiatives that foster inclusion. These are more than symbolic gestures—they reflect the important work of building understanding, standing up to discrimination, and creating schools where every learner feels a sense of belonging.
We also want to acknowledge the leadership of staff and student groups who continue to create inclusive spaces in our schools and inspire others to learn, reflect, and grow. As a district, we know that education plays a vital role in broadening understanding, eliminating discrimination, and nurturing healthy, connected communities. Thank you for being part of that journey with us.
Wishing you a joyful and inclusive Pride Month!
Let’s continue to stand together for a school system—and a community—where everyone belongs.
With gratitude,
Roberta Kubik
